Mix and Match at Heart 2 Heart!

Posted on

Hello Friends!

The Heart 2 Heart challenge this week is Mix and Match!  We were asked to design a project using papers from different paper collections.  I chose to use Hello Lovely and Uptown Fundamentals for these beautiful beach photos of my son and his family right before their second son was born.

I love how the gold foil striped paper from Uptown Fundamentals adds a little bling and elegance to the subtle colors of the Hello Lovely papers.  Plus the Sea Glass print perfectly matched the color of the ocean in the photos!

Please head over to Heart 2 Heart Challenges to see the Mix and Match projects made the rest of the Ruby Design Team.  Then be sure to share your own artwork for everyone to enjoy!

Thanks so much for stopping by today and I hope you all have an awesome week!   Laurie

Silver and Gold at Heart 2 Heart

Happy New Year, Friends!

Welcome back to a new year of awesome challenges at Heart 2 Heart!  For this first week in January, the challenge is to use Gold or Silver on a project.  I chose to use the Uptown Fundamentals paper pack and the January Stamp of the Month to create an elegant black and gold all occasion card.

I stamped an image from the January Stamp of the Month (see below) and heat embossed it with gold embossing powder.  The image is mounted on a black mat trimmed with Gold Foil tape.  I finished it off with a bow made from black and gold ribbon.

Now it’s your turn to create with Silver and Gold!  Please link up your project at Heart 2 Heart–we love to see your artwork!

More November Stamp of the Month Cards

Posted on

Hello Friends!

Yesterday I shared a few cards that I made with the November Stamp of the Month called New Year’s Wishes that were NOT related to New Year’s events.  While writing that blog post, I thought of another way to use the snowflake stamps on that set and here is the result.  A random stamped and heat embossed background and sentiment in non traditional holiday colors!

Since one of the latest challenges at Heart 2 Heart was to create a holiday project using non-traditional colors (no red or green), I decided to link up this card to share.  Check out their blog and the other great projects!

Take a look at the sketch above from Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge!  The next card I made using the November Stamp of the Month was based on this sketch so I am entering it in their challenge.  I was pretty ambivalent about the colors while I was making this card, but it turned out to be one of my favs!  Check out my previous blog post for more ideas on using the SOTM for non New Year’s creations and visit Atlantic Hearts for even more creative inspiration!

I used the gray side of the Uptown Fundamentals paper along with Slate ink, Whisper cardstock and the Slate polka dot ribbon that coordinates with the Uptown papers.  Won’t it make a great wedding or anniversary card?  Just change up the sentiment on the inside to fit your occasion!

November Stamp of the Month

Hello Friends!

Today I’d like to showcase the November Stamp of the Month called “New Year’s Cheer.” Scroll down to see a photo of the stamp set.  Of course this stamp has many images and sentiments that are just perfect for cards and layouts relating to New Year’s events.  But I wanted to show you how this stamp is NOT just for New Year’s!  Remember you can purchase this stamp set for only $5.00 with any $50.00 Close To My Heart purchase.

First I made a birthday card with Jeepers Creepers paper.  I heat embossed some of the images with white embossing powder and added some white enamel stars.  I think it makes quite a classy and colorful card for a special birthday greeting!

Next I made a wedding card with this same New Year’s Wishes Stamp of the Month.  I used the gray side of the patterned paper in the Uptown Fundamentals collection.  Adding a sentiment stamped in Slate ink, a strip of Whisper cardstock and the coordinating Slate polka dot ribbon created a surprisingly nice monochromatic color design for my card!

Finally, I made another birthday card with this same stamp set.  I used Swan Lake paper, a Picture My Life style card from the Swan Lake paper pack and the banner stamps to create a festive birthday greeting.

I hope you can now look at the November Stamp of the Month and see that it is much more than just a New Year’s themed stamp!  I actually thought of another way to use this stamp as I was writing this post–I’ll try to make it and share tomorrow!

Until then, thanks for stopping by and make it a wonderful day!   Laurie

Going “Uptown” with Heart 2 Heart!

Posted on

Hello Friends!

This week at Heart 2 Heart we are focusing on UPTOWN–the new paper fundamentals from Close To My Heart, the “uptown” area of a city or even a song with an “uptown” theme.  I chose to use the Uptown Paper Fundamentals to create a classy wedding card embellished with lots of gold!

It’s really hard to photograph shiny metallic papers, so I took a couple of photos from different angles so you could get a better idea of how it really looks.  However, none of them are very good–sorry!  I layered the gold dot velum paper over the white areas between the gold metallic stripes.  I also used the black and gold ribbon from the Uptown Ribbon Pack to add another layer over the gold stripes.

The stamped sentiments on the front and inside of the card came from the stamp set Wedding Wishes and the wreath image is from a new stamp set called Wreath.  I heat embossed the stamped images with gold embossing powder.

Stop by the Heart 2 Heart blog to see the projects made by the other design team members.  Then link up your own artwork with the Uptown theme for everyone to enjoy!

Be sure to make someone SMILE today!   Laurie

Sea Glass–Color of the Year!

Posted on

Hello Friends!

Close To My Heart has chosen a special Color of the Year–Sea Glass!  This week at Heart 2 Heart Challenges, the design team was asked to create a project with this beautiful new color.  Well, since I can rarely stop with just one, I made 5 different cards that feature Sea Glass.  I will share one today and the others later on in the week, so stay tuned!

I love the combination of Sea Glass with Black and splashes of gold!  I put the velum overlay with gold dots from Uptown Fundamentals on top of the Sea Glass background, used the Happy Thin Cut on black glitter paper and added the “birthday” sentiment from another CTMH stamp set.  A few banners from black glitter paper and the retired Gold Dots washi tape mounted on white cardstock are the only embellishments it needed.

If you love Sea Glass as much as I do, then hop on over to the Heart 2 Heart Challenges site to see other projects created by out design team.  Then, as always, you are invited to link up your own projects with Sea Glass for everyone to enjoy!

Stop back later this week to see the other cards I created with this fabulous new color.  And if you need to get your own pack of Sea Glass or any other Close To My Heart products, just click HERE!

Thanks for stopping by today and make sure to BE AWESOME!!   Laurie

More Thin Cuts Fun!

Posted on

Hello Friends!

Yesterday I shared some cards that I made with the Hearts and Stars Thin Cuts by Close To My Heart.  Today I have some cards made with the word Thin Cuts–Happy, Celebrate and Love.  They cut so easily with any die cutting machine like a Cuttlebug or Big Shot.  The most challenging thing about them is applying adhesive since the cuts are pretty thin, but I used my Bonding Memories Glue Pen and it worked just fine.

I used the chevron woodgrain paper from the Rustic Home Fundamentals collection for the background of my card.  The “Happy” was cut from Poppy cardstock and adhered to a banner shape in Peacock.  The “birthday” sentiment was stamped in Poppy ink and  I added a bow of Poppy twine as the only embellishment.

The background for these cards is the gold embossed vellum from the Uptown Fundamental collection.  It’s hard to see in the pictures, but the polka dots are actually shiny gold embossed circles.  This time I cut the Thin Cuts from gold and black glitter paper and added the Black and Gold Ribbon to give it a sophisticated look.  I think these would be great for a wedding or anniversary card.  Plus they are big enough to be the title on a scrapbook page–love that!!

Get your own Thin Cuts by shopping at my CTMH website HERE–you won’t be disappointed!
