Something NEW at H2H!

Happy New Year, Friends!

We are celebrating the New Year with our challenge this week at Heart 2 Heart.  The theme is SOMETHING NEW and I interpreted this by using some NEW products and trying a NEW technique as well as celebrating the NEW year!

I used the beautiful NEW Chelsea Gardens paper collection by Close To My Heart.  This paper will be available for your purchase on January 1 (along with all the other amazing products in the new Seasonal Expressions 1 catalog)!

I also used the NEW (to me) Alphabet Thin Cuts set and coordinating In the Background stamps.  It was so easy to continue the polka dot theme of my background paper on the word “happy” that I cut from the Thin Cuts.  All I did was stamp the polka dot background on Glacier cardstock before I cut the letters.  Then I added a little Charcoal ink to the edges of each letter and popped them up with dimensional foam.  Very easy and a NEW technique with NEW products that I’m sure I will use a lot on future projects!

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I hope your NEW year is off to a wonderful start and that you have many NEW adventures awaiting you!   Laurie

Belated Merry Christmas Cards

Posted on

Hello, Friends!

It’s not too late to post a few more Christmas cards, is it?  I sure hope not, since I still plan to send out the rest of my cards now that all the company is gone and life is a bit closer to “normal” again!

These are all made with the Vellum paper that Close To My Heart is selling again–love it!  I used embossing folders on two of the cards and heat embossed in white on the third card.

Don’t forget about the Boxing Week Sale at Close To My Heart!  Each day this week there is a collection of products 30-40% off including CTMH Cricut cartridges!  Click HERE to see today’s offerings.

Christmas Shadow Boxes

Posted on

Hello, Friends!

I recently saw a cute shadow box that Lisa Bzibziak from Life of a BZscrapper made and thought I needed to give it a try.  I had made a bridge fold card a while back with a tree and deer scene that I really liked and thought it would be a nice backdrop for my shadow box.  You can see the card below.

I recreated the tree and deer scene and raised some of the images with dimensional foam.  The “Merry and Bright” image is from the Artbooking cartridge by Close To My Heart.  I purchased some mini ornaments from Michael’s to add to the inside of the shadow box and used some leftover glitter snowflakes to decorate the frame.  It was a bit hard to photograph this shadow box, so sorry for the not-so-great picture!

You should give these shadow boxes a try!  They are basically a large shaker card and the sky is the limit on the types of dimensional objects you can place inside!  But this is the perfect gift for a special someone on my Christmas list!

Hope your day is awesome!   Laurie

Time for Warm Winter Clothes!

Hello, Friends!

It’s time to start digging out those warm winter hats, gloves, scarves and heavy coats!  Those of you who live in warm climates, will just have to miss this “fun” LOL!!  The challenge this week at Bitten by the Bug 2 is to use a Winter Clothes cut on your project.

My son and his family came to Nebraska for Thanksgiving this year and his 11 month old son had never experienced a cold Nebraska wind.  They live in Destin, Florida, so he had to get used to socks, shoes and long pants too!  In this photo, he looks like a fish out of water in his warm winter clothes!

I used the Winter Woodland cartridge for the large stocking cap that I placed in the background and Three Birds on Parade for the title.  The subtle patterns of the Whimsy Fundamentals from Close To My Heart were the perfect papers to use.  It is hard to see in the photo, but the snowflakes and the words are cut from white glitter paper.

I hope you stop over to Bitten by the Bug 2 to check out the other design team projects.  Then link up your own artwork with Warm Winter Clothes cuts!

Marker Madness at Heart 2 Heart!

Hello Friends!

This week we invite you to join us for Marker Madness at Heart 2 Heart.  So why don’t you get out your markers, choose some Close To My Heart products and get creating!

I used the Beary Christmas paper and coordinating Beary Christmas stamp and Thin Cut bundle to create my card.  It’s never too early to think about Christmas, right?  I cut a strip of one of the PML cards for my HOHOHO border, used my Cuttlebug to cut the bear, fox and Christmas tree and colored them with my Shin Han markers.  Pretty cute, don’t you think?

Now you can channel your inner child and do some marker coloring of your own!  Be sure to link them up at Heart 2 Heart!

Thanks for stopping by!   Be sure to make a positive “mark” on the world today!   Laurie

Free Standing Pop Up Card

Posted on

Hello Friends!

The other day I was going through a bunch of old cards I received in card swaps from previous years.  I came across a cool card that I thought I would try to replicate.  So I took the card apart, did a little measuring, scoring and cutting and voila! here is the result.

I used the rose print paper from the new Adventure Fundamentals paper collection from Close To My Heart along with Blossom cardstock.  The sentiment is from the Seasonal Expressions 2 catalog which will be retiring at the end of August.  The roses are from the Beautiful You stamp and Thin Cut bundle.

Later I found out that this type of card is called a Free Standing Pop Up Card.  There is a tutorial on Splitcoast Stamper that you can view at the link below.
