The challenge at Heart 2 Heart this week is In Stitches. Instead of faux stitching or making a layout about being “in stitches”, I decided to take it literally and add some real hand sewing to my project.
I used paper and ribbon from Rustic Home Fundamentals along with Sea Glass cardstock. The stitching pattern is from the Stitch Guide by Close To My Heart. I grabbed some old floss and away I went, needle in hand with a vague memory of embroidery from earlier days. While it’s nowhere near perfect, I think it fits with the shabby chic style of the card!
I added sentiments to make this appropriate for a sympathy card, but it could certainly work for any occasion. I’m not sure I’ll do a lot of hand stitching in the future since it takes quite a bit of time, but it was fun to try!
Please stop over to Heart 2 Heart and check out the other design team members’ artwork. You will certainly find some great ideas for adding all kinds of stitching to your projects. Then link them up at H2H for everyone to enjoy!
Thanks for stopping by! Remember to do something AWESOME today! Laurie
Today I made a very non-traditional Valentine’s Day card. No reds or pinks in sight on this one! Instead I used the Rustic Home paper collection from Close To My Heart and the new Hello Lovely Cardmaking Bundle which includes stamps and coordinating Thin Cuts. This is seriously a gorgeous set of goodness that I can’t wait to play with lots more in the future!!
Isn’t that floral spray amazing? I must say that using this stamp and die set on kraft paper in Chocolate ink was not my original idea. I saw a beautiful card made by another CTMH consultant and that was my inspiration. Check out the entire Hello Lovely Cardmaking Bundle in the photo below.
This card is going in the mail today as a Valentine greeting for my husband. I haven’t seen him in in over a month now since I’ve been spending the winter in Florida helping my son and his family after their second son was born and I miss him!
Here’s wishing you a wonderful, relaxing weekend with plenty of LOVE! Laurie
My dad’s birthday was last weekend and he is an avid (that’s putting it mildly!) fisherman, so of course his card had to be related to fishing. For his card I used paper from the Rustic Home Fundamentals collection along with Chocolate cardstock and ink. The stamped images are from B1535 Hooked on You. I colored the fish with watercolor pencils and added some square metallic embellishments which are now retired.
The sentiment for the inside will soon adorn the majority of my future birthday cards because I think it is awesome! It’s called One in a Million (A1201) and is only $6.95! I will get lots of use from this one, I’m sure.
This week at Heart 2 Heart we are getting our “Kraft” on! The challenge this week is to use kraft paper on your project. I really love the look of kraft paper paired with shiny gold–that “shabby chic” style is a favorite of mine–so I used that combination in my thank you card.
I used the polka dot kraft paper and gold striped vellum from the Rustic Home Fundamentals paper collection from Close To My Heart. The Wreath Thin Cut is a brand new product that coordinates with the Wreath stamp in the Annual Inspirations catalog. I heat embossed the wreath in gold, of course! I’m really becoming a great fan of these Thin Cuts! I also used one for the word “thanks” at the bottom of the card.
Please check out the other Design Team projects at Heart 2 Heart Challenges. We really got our “kraft” on this week and we’d love to see your kraft projects too! Link them up so we can all get some more inspiration!
Have an awesome week and be GRATEFUL for all the little things each day! Laurie
On Monday I posted a card for the Heart 2 Heart Challenge using the beautiful new Sea Glass color. Close To My Heart has chosen Sea Glass as the Color of the Year and you will see it popping up in many of my projects. Here are a couple of cards–Enjoy!
This card has Sea Glass combined with pieces of the gold overlays from the All About the Gold collection. I wanted to make a very classy, elegant birthday card and I think the gold embossed sentiment, Gold Foil Tape and Gold Sequins really make it pop! Plus the foil tape holds the overlays in place without worrying about adhesive showing through.
I wanted this second card to have a more rustic feel, so I used a woodgrain print from the Rustic Home collection as the background. I used the tone on tone technique by stamping the flower images in Sea Glass ink onto the Sea Glass cardstock. I added just a small strip of gold embossed velum and a couple of Gold Sequins to contrast with the country look of the woodgrain paper.
So, from classy geometric to country chic, you can see how Sea Glass works with many different styles. I just LOVE it!!

September is National Stamping Month and we will be celebrating stamping at Heart 2 Heart the next two weeks. This week the challenge is to feature STAMPING in your projects. Fun, fun, fun!
I chose to use a few different stamping techniques on my card–creating a background, heat embossing, sponging and using coordinated Cricut cuts with the stamped images of the September Stamp of the Month. I really love this “Blessed Beyond Measure” stamp set, mainly because of the sentiments, but also because I love the Fall colors you see in pumpkins and falling leaves. How about you?
I used the gold embossed striped paper from the Rustic Home collection along with Chocolate cardstock for the background of the card. I stamped the small leaf multiple times on the Chocolate cardstock in Versamark ink, applied clear embossing powder and then heat embossed. I really like the tone on tone, shiny effect this creates.
Since the leaf stamps on this set have coordinating Cricut cuts from Artistry, I just cut a bunch of leaves and randomly sponged them in various Fall colors. I then stamped the “veins” in Chocolate ink. I adhered the leaves along the card as if they were blowing in the wind, added a strip of lacy ribbon from the Rustic Home collection and a simple sentiment matted in a shiny gold paper.
Close To My Heart has so many wonderful stamping products that it makes it very easy to create beautiful stamped artwork! Check out the other design team projects at Heart 2 Heart and then get busy stamping! We love it when you link up your work for everyone to enjoy!
