Twist and Pop Christmas Card

Posted on

Hello Friends!

You have probably seen these Twist and Pop cards many times since they have been all over the internet for a few months now.  But I haven’t tried to make one until today!  I used a Design Space file that Joy Tracey from Obsessed With Scrapbooking shared a while back.  This made the scoring and folding so easy!  I decorated this card with papers from the Oh Deer paper collection from Close To My Heart.

The picture above shows the front of the card when it is closed.  I made a belly band that I decorated with a snowflake Thin Cut and an embossed star from the Oh Deer Complements.

This photo shows the card partially open.  You need to see the twisting motion in action to really appreciate the mechanics of this card.  It’s really quite impressive, but deceptively easy!

And finally, this photo shows what the card looks like when it is completely open.  There are six panels to decorate and embellish.  I can think of lots and lots of options for this card design so you will probably see some more of them soon!

Here is the link to Joy Tracey’s video showing you how to assemble these Twist and Pop cards.  She also has a link to her Design Space file there.  Give these a try–they are lots of fun!!

If you still have Christmas shopping to do, I wish you small crowds, short lines and close-to-the-door parking spaces!!    Laurie

Heart 2 Heart Projects–Oh Deer!

Posted on

Hello Friends!

This week will be the final Heart 2 Heart Challenge of 2016!  The design team will be taking a few weeks off for the holidays, but we will be back first thing in January!  This week we were asked to create a project using the beautiful Oh Deer paper pack.  I have to say this has been one of the best paper packs to work with!  The muted colors and nature themed designs are so appealing to me.

I cut 1.5 inches from the front edge of the card and stamped the pine boughs and cones to make a border that shows when the card is closed.  I used several Close To My Heart stamp sets for this card:  Perfectly Pine (A1191), Merry and Bright (A1155), Swirling Stars (M1146), Woodland Wishes (D1696) and Very Merry (D1694).  The ink colors are Fern, New England Ivy, Desert Sand and Cocoa.  Shop HERE to purchase any of these awesome products.

Have a wonderful week and eat an extra Christmas cookie or two!   Laurie

December Stamp of the Month

Posted on

Hello, Friends!

Take a look at Thoughtful Flowers, the December Stamp of the Month!   Beautiful flowers and beautiful sentiments make an all around beautiful stamp set!

s16121Here is a Christmas card I made with this Stamp of the Month.  I thought one of the flower images resembled a poinsettia, so I stamped three of them in Versa Mark ink and heat embossed with gold embossing powder.  I then used my watercolor paints to add a bit of color to the images.  I layered gold and white shimmer trim over papers from Oh Deer and added a white glitter snowflake and a Christmas sentiment banner.

I especially love the sentiments since they are a bit different than those you usually find on a sympathy card, so I had to make one of those too!  I used the gray toned linen paper from the Rustic Fundamentals collection, turning the gold stripe over to silver and adding some silver sequins to the flowers.

And finally, here is a card made by one of the artists at the CTMH Home Office.  The flower stamps were used to create the background for the card which really sets off the sentiment on the black banner.

Fancy Flourishes and Swirls at BBTB2

Posted on

Hello Friends!

We are getting fancy at Bitten by the Bug 2 this week!  The challenge is to use a Flourish or Swirl cut on your projects.  I made a sympathy card with a beautiful rose, complete with flourishes, from the Quarter Note Cricut cartridge.

img_4027

I used Topiary (retired), Smoothie and Pomegranate cardstock by Close To My Heart.  The patterned paper in the background is from the CTMH Oh Deer collection.  It reminds me of birch bark and makes a nice base for the beautiful roses.  Purchase your Close To My Heart products HERE.

Please visit Bitten by the Bug 2 to see the beautiful “eye candy” created for you by our design team.  Then link up your own projects with Flourishes and Swirls for everyone to enjoy.  We love it when you share your artwork!

Happy Halloween!   Laurie

Christmas Card Workshop!!

Posted on

Hello Friends!

I am so excited to announce my 2016 Christmas Card Workshops!  Each workshop includes 8 different cards.  The first set of cards is made from the beautiful, woodsy Oh, Deer paper collection from Close To My Heart.  I love the addition of Sea Glass, CTMH’s color of the year, to this paper pack because it really gives it that “special something”!

The second Card Workshop is created from the new City Sidewalks paper collection from Close To My Heart.  It has a cute, whimsical feel and includes more traditional Christmas colors with a touch of Lagoon and Peacock.  Many of these cards have Cricut cuts from the brand new Close To My Heart cartridge called City Sidewalks.  Take a look!

There are two ways you can get your hands on these cards!  First, you can come to my home during an open house style workshop on Saturday, October 29 between the hours of 9:00 am to 5:00 pm or Sunday, October 30 between the hours of 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm.  You can make as many of your choice of cards for $1.00 each.  That means you can make one of each card or multiples of one style–your choice!  I will have all the pieces cut and ready for you to assemble.  Plus I’ll have my Cricut and paper trimmer at the ready to make more if we run out during the workshop.

The second way to get these cards is to order a kit of 2 of each style (16 total cards) for $20.00.  This price includes shipping.  If you want both workshops, the cost would by $40.00 for all 32 cards.  Just let me know which workshops you want and I will make a kit and mail it to you!

You should also know that these cards are not the smaller, standard A2 sized cards that are usually in my kits.  All of the cards in both of these collections are larger, A7 sized cards (6.5 x 5 inches).  Christmas is special and deserves a bigger card, right?!!

I had so much fun creating these cards and I hope your like them as much as I do!  Please contact me to order a card kit or to let me know you will be attending the open house style workshop.  Thank you so much and make it an awesome day!   Laurie
