Note: Edited with the correct spelling of “Eclipse”– not sure how that one got by my little pea brain!!
I’m sure you have all heard about the solar eclipse that will be passing over the U.S. on August 21. Well, here in Southeast Nebraska we are especially excited since we are right in the middle of the Path of Totality! There are viewing parties planned, a whole weekend of community events and not a hotel room to be found in the area. So of course I had to create a scrapbook layout to commemorate this once in a lifetime event.
I did lots of designing on Design Space since there are really no images available for a solar eclipse on Cricut Access. I used paper from the new Adventure Fundamentals collection because I thought the ombre design represented the gradual move to darkness that we will see that day. I inserted a large circle to cover the sun image and sliced the text in that circle since I really dislike gluing down small letters! The other words were also sliced into the shapes so the background shows through.
I’m sure I will have lots more photos than just the four shown on these layouts. My plan is to add 4 x 6 Flip Flaps wherever needed to hold the extra photos. I didn’t do any of my usual overlapping of photo mats this time to allow room to attach those Flip Flaps.
I hope you are all excited about the eclipse too! Take some time to savor this miracle of nature! Laurie
Do you live where there are fireflies? Well, they are prolific here in Nebraska and it just doesn’t seem like summer until we see their twinkly lights once more! Unfortunately, there are no fireflies where my grandchildren live, but I can’t wait until they visit in the summer and participate in a traditional lightning bug hunt. And I will be prepared with this layout!
The challenge at Bitten by the Bug 2 this week is Summer Nights–use a Cricut cut of stars, campfires, fireflies or anything you associate with a hot summer night.
The background paper is from a retired Close To My Heart collection called Florence. The Cricut cuts are from Summer Love, Simple Pop Up Cards and A Child’s Year (font). I took a firefly from the pop up card, attached it to a hexagon and then “sliced”. After placing a yellow layer behind the firefly hexagon, voila! a nice embellishment that I duplicated for the border along the edge of the page. Love Design Space!!
Pop over to Bitten by the Bug 2 to see the Summer Night projects by my design team sisters. Then get out your Cricuts and create your own Summer Nights artwork to link up for everyone to enjoy!
Amazingly, Easter is just around the corner! I thought I would try out a couple of the Make It Now projects on Design Space. These are really awesome projects that you can just click on and cut without doing any work besides deciding on which papers to use. But if you want to adjust the design, you can by first clicking on “custom”. Then you can change the size, layers, etc. to your own needs. I did change the size of these cards to my usual A7 (6.5 x 5 inch) size. Enjoy this little touch of Spring!!
If you have never tried out the Make It Now projects, I would suggest that you check them out! They really are quick and easy since the designing has been done for you!
Valentine’s Day is next week! Do you have your cards made? Here are a couple that I played around with today. Have I ever said that I LOVE Design Space? It is so easy to search for images, design online and actually see what your project will look like before you cut!
The cuts came from various cartridges and I honestly didn’t keep track of which ones I used. Cardstock is from Close To My Heart and the heart embossing folder is also from CTMH.
Thank you for visiting the blog today! Spread a little sunshine wherever you go! Laurie
