This week I am excited to be hosting the challenge over at Heart 2 Heart! The theme is “Poppy Color Challenge” using the combination of Cranberry, Sunset, Lagoon, Glacier and Topiary by Close To My Heart. Aren’t these colors just beautiful in this inspiration picture?
I decided to challenge myself by making two different projects for this challenge. The first project follows the “flower idea” from the inspiration picture. I used the September Stamp of the Month called Paper Garden to stamp the flowers and leaves and the August Stamp of the Month called Framed for the sentiment.
I just love how Close To My Heart has coordinating Cricut cuts and stamps. It was so easy to cut a bunch of flowers and leaves from Artiste and then stamp them with the matching stamps from the September Stamp of the Month. I did the same thing with the sentiment which has coordinating cuts on the new Artistry cartridge.
I created the background for the flowers by layering Topiary and Cranberry cardstock followed by a base of Glacier Paper Fundamentals. It was easy then to arrange my stamped flower and leaf images, popping some up with dimensional foam along with the coordinating sentiment. The final step was to add some of the beautiful CTMH coral and white sequins.
For my second project using the five colors from the H2H Challenge, I wanted something completely different than flowers. Hexagons are still wildly popular today so I cut an overlay of hexagons in Topiary from the new Artistry cartridge by Close To My Heart. I then cut multiple single hexagons in the other colors from the challenge (Cranberry, Sunset, Glacier and Lagoon) and adhered them behind the overlay in a pleasing to the eye pattern. I used the Paper Fundamentals so I could choose from the patterned side or the embossed side of the paper. I think this gives the design even more interest.
The “Happy” sentiment was also cut from Artistry and I simply added a small “birthday” stamp sentiment, cut out a rectangle and adhered it to the bottom of the Cricut cut. A little foam dimensional tape here and there and the project was done!
I never would have thought to put the five colors in this challenge together, but as you can see in these designs, they really do work! That’s what these challenge blogs like Heart 2 Heart Challenges are all about. They get you to think outside the box and really “stretch your brain”! How are you going to “stretch your brain” today? Create you own project using these colors and join us at H2H! Laurie
